ARMED POACHERS IN VIOLENT OUTJO SHOOTOUT

A tense confrontation at Farm Kifaru in Namibia's Outjo district escalated into an early-morning firefight when specialized anti-poaching rangers intercepted two armed suspects on patrol. Namibia holds the world's largest wild population of the southwestern black rhino and plays a critical role in global rhino conservation.

Upon being spotted, the trespassers opened fire with a high-caliber hunting rifle. Returning fire in self-defense, the rangers injured a 30-year-old suspect, who was subsequently taken into custody and transported under guard for medical care. A second suspect fled into the surrounding bush, while law enforcement apprehended a 35-year-old getaway driver waiting in a vehicle. At the scene, officers recovered a hunting rifle, live ammunition, spent cartridges, cutting tools, and supplies.
