MASSIVE COORDINATED BUST RESCUES HUNDREDS OF PROTECTED ANIMALS

The global war against wildlife trafficking just scored a massive victory. In a sweeping, intelligence-led nationwide crackdown, India’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI)—partnering with the CBI and the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau—dismantled multiple organized wildlife crime syndicates in one of the largest coordinated stings I’ve seen recently.

The scale of the operation is staggering: over 440 endangered and protected wild animals were rescued, 15 kg of elephant ivory was seized, and 33 traffickers were arrested across multiple states and international airport checkpoints.

From ivory-carving syndicates near Rajasthan and Mysuru to transnational airport smugglers arriving from Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, the sheer variety of life caught in these networks is heartbreaking. Law enforcement successfully intercepted and rescued 15 slow lorises, two binturongs, 28 star tortoises, six rare Egyptian vultures, and an array of smuggled exotic species, including Goeldi’s marmosets and siamang gibbons.

This operation illustrates exactly how modern wildlife crime works. It isn’t just lone poachers in the woods—it is highly organized, multi-state, and transnational syndicates that treat our planet’s biodiversity as mere commodities.
