CELEBRATING WORLD FEMALE RANGER WEEK

This week marks World Female Ranger Week (June 23–30), a global initiative that honors the incredible, courageous women who serve on the front lines of wildlife conservation.
Currently, women make up less than 11% of the global wildlife ranger workforce. Yet groups like the Akashinga in Zimbabwe and the Black Mambas in South Africa are fundamentally changing the anti-poaching landscape. These women put their lives on the line daily—patrolling vast, rugged terrains, dismantling wire snares, and standing as a shield between heavily armed poachers and endangered species like elephants and rhinos.
Beyond tactical bravery, female rangers are proven game changers in community-led conservation. They excel at de-escalating conflict, building trust with local communities, and investing their income directly in healthcare and education for their families.
Protecting our planet's most vulnerable wildlife requires a dedicated workforce, and these women are showing us exactly what fierce, compassionate stewardship looks like. My own conservation efforts are deeply tied to supporting the vital work of anti-poaching units and raising awareness for the preservation of African wildlife. We cannot protect these majestic animals without standing behind the people who guard them.
